Bio
I am a physical oceanographer interested in the role of the oceans in climate and climate change. I teach undergraduate and graduate level introductory physical oceanography and help with the undergraduate marine science summer field course. My group conducts research in exciting regions of the ocean using a combination of cutting-edge data from remote sensing, autonomous ocean gliders, shipboard measurements, and high-resolution models that realistically simulate the small-scale turbulence of the ocean. I am currently the director of the MEAS honors program. In my free time I’m an avid surfer and find my inspiration playing in the ocean.
Education
PhD Oceanography University of Rhode Island, Graduate School of Oceanography 2012
BS Physics Clemson 2006
Area(s) of Expertise
Roles of mesoscale and submesoscale eddies in ocean circulation and air-sea interaction. Dynamics of major ocean currents such as the Kuroshio Extension, Gulf Stream, and Southern Ocean. High-resolution climate modeling and remote sensing.
