Special Seminar
February 15, 2018 | 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Speaker: Dr. Syuichi Itahashi, Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry, Chiba, Japan |
Seminar Title: Air quality modeling application toward the emission control strategies |
Abstract: Three-dimensional air quality modeling, representing complex processes of emission, transport, chemical reaction, and deposition, is a valuable approach to advance our understanding on the atmospheric environment. In Japan, the achievement of the environmental standard for the secondary air pollutants of photochemical ozone (O3) and particulate matter with its diameter less than 2.5 μm (PM2.5) is low. This can be partly due to the trans-boundary air pollution from the Asian continent, where remarked the expanded growth of economy and ranked as the world largest anthropogenic emission sources. Toward the appropriate strategies to reduce the ambient concentrations, I have been trying to apply the air quality modeling over East Asia. I would like to introduce my 10 years’ research in this seminar.
Short Bio: Dr. Itahashi is the research scientist at Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry (CRIEPI), Abiko, Chiba, Japan. He holds a B.S. degree in Faculty of Science at Kyushu University, and a M.S. and Ph.D in the Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Engineering Sciences at Kyushu University. From the graduate school, he engaged in the air quality modeling study over East Asia. The trans-boundary air pollution from the Asian continent, where the largest emission sources in the world, is considered on the atmospheric environment in Japan. He applied the air quality modeling to contribute the appropriate emission control strategies to reduce the ambient concentration. The peer-reviewed publication to the Japan Society of Atmospheric Environment authored by Dr. Itahashi was awarded the best article prize in 2009, 2012, 2014, and 2015. He was granted two Young Scientist Awards from the Japan Society of Atmospheric Environment, and Meteorological Society of Japan. Dr. Itahashi authored and co-authored 18 and 10 international journal publication, respectively. He serves as the Editorial Advisory Board member of Asian Journal of Atmospheric Environment (AJAE).
