Mineral/Rock Donations
Did you know? NC State houses one of the largest geological sample collections in North Carolina-- with over 7,000 specimens used for teaching, research and educational outreach.
Thank you for your interest in donating minerals, rocks, and/or fossils to the Department of Marine, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at NC State. We greatly appreciate your generosity.
We are happy to welcome samples that have been identified (mineral/rock name) and their collection location. Unfortunately, if you do not know what the sample is or where it was collected, we will not be able to integrate it into our collection. Instead, you may want to reach out to your local public schools to gauge their interest.
If your samples fit those criteria, please email the curator of the department collection, Arianna Soldati, with sample pictures. She will be happy to determine if we can incorporate them into our collection. If so, she will also arrange a time for you to deliver them to the Department. Unfortunately, we cannot pick up samples off campus.
If you think you possibly have a meteorite, please contact either the State Geological Survey or the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, Chris Tacker and staff, Geology Collections.
