Life at MEAS
More than an education and training, graduate school is a way of life. MEAS students and faculty become friends, as well as peers.
Join Our Family
Together, MEAS graduate students kick off the fall semester with their annual Porktoberfest family and friends cookout. As the semester continues, weekly social events — from downtown Raleigh trivia nights and happy hours to tea and snacks in the student lounge — bring students together for friendship and collaboration outside the lab.
Get involved with the MEAS Graduate Student Association (GSA) to help shape the events calendar and intramural activities, to access the student directory, and to find scholarship and job opportunities.
The MEAS GSA has monthly noon-time meetings and also sponsors assorted social activities. Funds usually are available through the association to defray graduate student expenses to participate in professional meetings and field trips. If you plan a visit to the department, members of the GSA are often able to provide one or two nights’ lodging.
An active Geology Club provides an opportunity for faculty, graduate students and undergraduates to mingle in the context of monthly meetings with guest speakers, field trips and occasional social events.
