Celebrating Five Years of the College of Sciences
We’re five!
On July 1, 2013, NC State launched its new College of Sciences, bringing together NC State people and programs in physical, chemical, mathematical, statistical, biological and earth-system sciences.
This new structure enhanced collaborative opportunities for students and faculty, a convergence that’s key to addressing many of the world’s greatest problems in health, energy production and environmental sustainability. Creating the new college also brought NC State in line with national best practices for the alignment of related physical, mathematical and biological sciences programs.
Here are just a few highlights of our first five years:
- More than 4,500 bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral graduates
- $164 million in research awards
- 5 faculty named American Association for the Advancement of Science fellows
- 10 National Science Foundation Early Career Development Award winners
- Numerous highly competitive scholarships and national awards for our students, including NC State’s first winner of the prestigious Churchill Scholarship
- Endowment growth of 120 percent
The college has also shared its science with thousands of people through events like its signature annual State of the Sciences extravaganza and its presence at community events like BugFest and the Triangle SciTech Expo.
